Unit 38 Soundtrack/ Unit 4 manage a project
How are sounds incorporated within a movie scene and how do they affect the movie mood (atmosphere) and meaning (understanding)?
Film- Nightmare on elm street
The movie Nightmare on Elm Street have diegetic sounds for every scene of where there's something dramatic or something terribly wrong is going to happen, e.g. the scene where the victim follow a blood trail after seeing her friend being dragged towards the boiling, from that point on the diegetic sounds of the footsteps echos in the boiler room making it sound loud and dramatic, the atmosphere from the movie shows some dreamy climate and frightening. the mood from movie gives some scary vibes, where the killer's motive is to kill the girl.
Children of Men soundtrack analysis
In the movie children of men, the moods that have been created in the scene started off as normal day and everyone is hearing the news of what's happening in the world today in the future, as it started off with the voiceover in the open scene, you can hear the spoken voice of the British news woman talking about the death of the youngest child on the planet, this made it stand out as everyone is hearing the woman's voice, then you can hear the man asking for his order the black coffee to start off in the morning.
Then the sound effects you hear the noises of the street, the cars in traffic you can hear the honking and the beeping trying to get past through to their work place. Few minuets later there was an explosion, a great bang just inside the coffee shop the man was last in, soon as it happens there was a high pitch ringing when the explosion had occurred.
In the movie Children of Men, the of the long take of the scene where guns firing and the baby beeping kidnapped along with the mother, the main character Theo was trying rescue both the baby and the mother, the sound effects in the scene have big explosions and gun firing everywhere, the crying and screaming was heard by the men and women trying to survive the apocalyptical events. It also shows some voice over in the scene, Theo hears the baby' wailing from afar even though the main character couldn't see, he follows the sound like its pulling him to the source as a sound detector, the whole dialogue in this long take was listening the baby's crying, you can hear the background noises but you can mainly hear the baby's voice.
Sound Bridge is where the sound (a diegetic) crosses over the two different scenes which can blends in till the next scene.

Does the use of of recording spoken word interviews live and on location make the content more effective, and what are the technical problems and results of trying to record moving and challenging interviewees?
The technical problem was that recording outside can be difficult especially, when they trying hear from afar, so they use the subtitles to hear what the interviewers say. The result of this was that they couldn't get a clear conversation if the interviewer was away from the cameramen
Is the use of music necessary and effective ? How does it add to the mood of particular sections of the documentary ?
The use of music was used when a certain point in the documentary, where a mysterious or bad situation is about to happen, if they get to an argument or fight about to break loose.
the music was also used as a sinister tone in a certain scenes of the documentary.
sound effects in the background was dramatic on the approach of the dealer, it was nice and relaxing then a dramatic opening for when the drug dealer comes in to meet Stacey to give her the product (drugs).
How is the background ambience used to add realism or mood to sections of the documentary ?
Are there any non-diegetic sound effects used and if so why ?
The non diegetic sound was used when there was a sinister sound was about to happen, like for example when someone was nearly about to get caught in the act. the build up for the ambiance was high, it notify the audience on something bad and dangerous is going to happen.
